Terms of service
vinfax.net is a free, read-only archive indexing public Copart and IAAI auction listings. These terms explain what the site is, what you may and may not do with it, and the limits of what we promise. Plain English on purpose.
1. What vinfax is
vinfax is a public-data aggregator over the open Copart and IAAI auction catalogues. We are not a marketplace, broker, dealer or auction house, and we are not affiliated with Copart or IAAI. No buying, selling or bidding happens here — every transaction lives at the source. See how vinfax works and data sources.
2. Acceptance of these terms
vinfax has no accounts — no registration, no login. Using the site means you accept these terms and the privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
3. Service provided as-is
Everything on vinfax is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty — express or implied — of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability or non-infringement. Our records mirror what Copart and IAAI publish; if a source listing is wrong, our copy will be wrong. We do not independently verify VINs, damage codes, odometer readings or photos. Manheim, ADESA and dealer-only auctions are not included.
4. Not a substitute for professional advice
vinfax is not a paid vehicle-history report. It is not a substitute for a Carfax or AutoCheck report, a pre-purchase inspection, a licensed mechanic, or any form of financial, investment or legal advice. Any decision to buy, sell, finance or insure a vehicle is yours alone.
5. Acceptable use
You may browse the public catalogue, search VINs through the free VIN check, link to any vinfax page, and quote short excerpts with attribution to vinfax.net.
6. What's not allowed
You may not:
- Scrape the site with automated tools. Use the sitemap and per-page JSON-LD for legitimate machine-readable access; respect
robots.txtand rate limits. Abusive crawlers are blocked without notice. - Resell, rehost or redistribute the data set, in bulk or in derived form, without written permission.
- Use the data to harass, dox or identify private individuals. Auction records are public; combining them with non-public personal data is not acceptable use.
- Spam the contact form or any published address.
- Attempt to breach security — rate-limit evasion, vulnerability scanning at scale, credential testing, or similar.
- Impersonate vinfax — no domain spoofing, copycat sites, fake forks, or use of the wordmark in a way that implies endorsement.
7. Intellectual property
Source data — VINs, lot IDs, damage codes, photos, auction metadata — comes from the public Copart and IAAI catalogues; whatever rights those auction houses or their photographers hold, they retain. We claim no ownership over the underlying public data. vinfax owns the curation, indexing, layout, copy, design and source code of this site; the code is not released under any public licence, and the wordmark and logo are reserved.
8. Photos and removal requests
Photographs are mirrored from Copart and IAAI to Cloudflare R2 as a permanence layer — both auction houses retire their imagery within weeks of a sale. Copyright in each photo belongs to whoever took it, typically the originating yard. Vehicle owners can email [email protected] with the VIN or lot URL to have the page hidden. We do not demand notarised proof, but we do informally check the requester has a plausible relationship to the vehicle. Formal copyright takedowns follow DMCA.
9. Third-party links
Every car page links to the originating Copart or IAAI lot with rel="nofollow noopener". We do not control or endorse third-party sites; their terms are their own. The site is served through Cloudflare and loads Google Fonts, as described in the privacy policy.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, vinfax and its operator are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the site or its data — including any decision made on the basis of what you read here. You assume the entire risk. Because the service is free, the operator's aggregate liability to any user is capped at zero US dollars.
11. Indemnification
If you misuse the site in breach of section 6 and a third-party claim against the operator results, you agree to indemnify and hold the operator harmless, including reasonable legal costs.
12. Termination
We may block access — at the IP, user-agent or network level — for any visitor who abuses the service, without notice. The site itself may be paused or discontinued at any time; no uptime is promised and there is no SLA.
13. Governing law
vinfax is operated from outside the United States and the European Union, but the site is reachable globally. Disputes are governed by the law of the operator's jurisdiction. Nothing here removes any non-waivable statutory consumer-protection right you may have where you live.
14. Severability
If any clause is unenforceable, the rest stays in force, and the unenforceable clause is read down to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid.
15. Changes to these terms
These terms can change. When they do, the "last updated" date below changes. With no accounts and no mailing list, this page is the canonical record — continued use after a change means you accept it.
